Automotive Technology Program

The automotive program is divided into eight areas of basic instruction directly related to the eight ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) areas used in the automotive repair industry. Each of the eight instructional blocks are 135 hours in length and allow the students to progress at their own pace. The automotive program is actively involved in Schools to Work and Schools That Work. Engine Repair Students in this area are taught the basics of engine operation and how to disassemble, determine needed repairs, and reassemble various modern engines used in the field today along with the troubleshooting techniques rquired to properly diagnosis problems. Electrical Systems Students in this area are taught the basics of electrical system theory and operation. Troubleshooting is heavily stressed in this unit. Students must solve problems that are found by technicians daily in the repair shops around the world. Engine Performance Students in this area are taught the basics of engine performance inlcuding how computer systems control and regulate the functions of the modern automotive engine. Troubleshooting is stressed in this unit with problems being placed in the engine systems for the students to locate and repair. Manual Transmissions Students in this area will receive instruction in clutches and several versions of manual transmissions including transaxles and CV joint repairs. Automatic Transmissions Students in this area will receive instruction in basic theory of operation, automatic transmission troubleshooting, and work on several types of automatic transmissions including automatic transxles. Suspension and Steering Systems Students in this area will receive instruction in several types of suspension and steering systems including computer controlled systems and four-wheel steering systems. Brake Systems Students in this area will receive instruction in basic theory of operation and the lastest anti-lock brake systems. Students will use brake equipment to diagnosis and repair both drum and disc brakes. Air Conditioning and Heating Students will receive instruction in basic theory of operation, troubleshooting, and diagnosis of various heating and air conditioning systems.
